Tonight we were lucky enough to have a guest Sensei from New York, Sensei Greg Giovaniello of Kai Fuku Ryu (Kyokushin). Sensei Giovaniello was a everything a Kyokushin Sensei should be, humble, friendly and knowledgeable (a kyokushin historian, I was humbled by his wealth of knowledge). Unfortunately he is heading home tomorrow (back to New York) and was only able to make one class. I speak for everyone when I say thank you and have a safe trip home!
It is official, yesterday we signed a lease for our own location. We will be about 10 minutes up the road. Construction and cleaning has already began and we hope to be training full time in the new location between October 20th and November 1st, with an official grand opening in late January or early February (timed with Kagamibaraki). Our time at Zona Fitness has been great and will be working on partnerships in the future. The new schedule will have Daily Kyokushin Classes and the return of Shin Shin Ryu Class (Iai, Japanese sword) and will be available soon!
Mr. Franco had a small vehicle accident last night, We were out with him until the early morning hours making sure everything was taken care of. Please wish him well and keep him in your thoughts. He is a little sore and banged up but is fine, he is strong!
We are happy to announce that starting next Saturday, I will begin teaching a 6 week intro course to Karate at the Tucson Parks and Rec. This program will run in 6 week sessions and classes will be held on Saturday mornings. I hope to show the new students the Kyokushin way & help start them on their journey through Karate and Budo.
Sensei Larry is going through some medical issues and we wish him a speedy recovery, it has been a long road back and we hope he gets there soon! Osu sensei
Tonight class was strong, and full of spirit, makes an old Sensei happy (well not that old).
In my opinion: The meaning of "OSU" is often over looked. Many students use this phrase in our Dojos with a casual air of tradition. As I matured in my training, OSU became more simple and clearly defined. Words from other cultures do not always translate to English fully. I believe OSU means you have my full attention.. OSU is a very Zen mind set (no past ,future, only the moment before you). This allows you to be 100% in the moment.. It means focus, purpose, reaction, and maximum result of ones efforts as well as genuine and honest respect.
